Season 7 of The Walking Dead came to a stunning and action-packed end back in April, and fans have been waiting months for a glimpse of what’s to come when the show returns in Season 8. In the finale, Sasha died and came back with a vengeance, Shiva unleashed her jaws of fury on a bunch of bad guys, and Rick and Co. were gearing up for war against Negan’s Saviors and Jadis’ Scavengers, We’ve gotten a couple of pictures of characters in Season 7, but we haven’t gotten anything in the way of footage… until now. The big trailer for The Walking Dead Season 8 debuted as San Diego Comic-Con, and it’s totally epic, bloody, and explosive. Take a look!
The trailer clocks in at more than five minutes, and I think that should tell us a lot about how much action we’re in for with Season 8 of The Walking Dead! Whatever happens, it appears that the two factions won’t be going to war right away. Negan seemed prepared to get his Saviors marching to Alexandria as soon as possible at the end of the Season 7 finale, but it looks like Rick and Co. are going to have enough time to plan some defenses and get to work on fortifying their home base.
It also looks like Rick and Co. are going to get their hands on more guns than they had in Season 7. At the very least, Daryl seems to have a flare gun he’s awfully fond of, if the scenes of him blowing stuff sky-high on his motorcycle are any indication. Rosita does turn up in the trailer, so we don’t have to worry that she’ll be out of the game for too long. Perhaps most importantly of all, Jerry seems to still have a knack for the one-liners.
Of course, Morgan’s comment “I don’t die” immediately makes me worried that he’s going to bite the dust sooner rather than later. That said, Rick giving rousing speeches to his people gives the impression that Season 8 might be less of a huge downer than Season 7. The beginning of last season was definitely tarnished by the fact that we had to watch Glenn and Abraham be beaten to death. While there will clearly still be plenty of violence, the good guys may give as good as they get.
Season 8 of The Walking Dead will premiere on Sunday, October 22 at 9 p.m on AMC. ET. Fear the Walking Dead will be back on September 10, so there will be some zombie action earlier than October.
